The Number Two Boxer
One day when I was working for Invisible Fence I had to stay in the office and take care of the paperwork side of business. Once the chores were over with I pulled out a number two soft lead pencil and started getting it.
That day was a pretty huge day for me because I realized something about myself. When I pulled this sketch off in a few hours I decided that day I wanted to get back to creative work.
I’m not the best artist, nor am I the worst. But after I drew this boxer it made think long and hard on the choices I’d made up until that time period.
I was excited to wield a pencil again and pretty stoked to start changing directions in life. At twenty eight I made a decision to go back to college and ended up blazing a trail to finish a degree in Mass Communications.
Why not design or some other type of art driven course?
Easy to answer. I already had a ton of college credits and the ones I had with John Tyler Community College were about to expire in terms of curriculum life expectancy.
Long story short, when I went back to school I found that mass communications would help me find my way into being able to tell all of my stories, not just help me refine my drawing abilities.
